Quick Beach Getaway: Laiya, San Juan, Batangas

Almost all Metro Manila beach afficionados are familiar with Laiya. This little town in San Juan, Batangas is a beach bum's quick and little escape from urban humdrum.

Batangas is known for its beautiful dive spots. Most divers flock to Anilao for a quick dive fix. But if you're like me, a non-diver and more of a sun-worshiper, then Laiya is your oasis.

The coastline of this sleepy town is lined with beach resorts. Proof that it indeed is a beach-lover's haven. I usually head over to Balai (Visayan term for house) Laiya since I love the rustic, laid back atmosphere and not to mention the good food. But about a month ago (yes, that long already), we headed over to Kabayan Resort. If I consider Balai rustic, then Kabayan would be quite the opposite. Modern and not lacking in amenities, Kabayan is what others might call "your home away from home". Equipped airconditioning, cable televison, and hot water, Kabayan is perfect for those who seek the usual urban comforts while lounging by the beach. Enough, it's starting to sound like a sales pitch.

But San Juan is not only for beach lovers. For history buffs or cultural afficionados, head over to the town proper of San Juan and check out the old houses' architecture. It's part of the Viaje del Sol, a cultural road trip conceived by Patis Tesoro. I personally have yet to try this 'road less taken' but it has been featured in other blogs. The reviews ( by Anton and Annalyn Jusay/Ajay) are quite interesting and it's already on my to-do/go travel list.
